A four-hour documentary titled 'Musk,' directed by Alex Gibney and opening in theaters next week, examines Elon Musk's career and his leadership of the Trump administration's Department of Government Efficiency, known as DOGE.
The film highlights texts Musk sent former partner Ashley St. Clair before the 2024 election, in which he said he was optimistic because 'tomorrow we unleash the anomaly in the matrix,' later explaining he meant 'lasers from space' and claiming over 10,000 satellites in orbit.
Gibney said at a screening he cannot determine whether Musk was bragging or lying, but offered a theory that Musk may have had early access to real-time vote-reporting data rather than any ability to switch votes; the film also covers Tesla's self-driving oversell, lawsuits, and alleged misleading range estimates, plus Musk's pro-natalist views and family history.
The documentary leaves open whether Musk had private motives for his role atop DOGE, a question the film does not resolve.
