Ukraine and the European Union will hold the first Drone Alliance meeting on Sept. 11 in Brussels, bringing together European Commissioner for Defence Andrius Kubilius, 19 European companies and nine Ukrainian firms including WB Group and ATHLON AVIA, according to Euractiv. The stated goal is joint steps on drone technology and counter-drone capabilities, an idea European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen first proposed last year.
One industry source quoted in the report was unconvinced the meeting would amount to much beyond itself. Separately, officials note six agreements have already been signed under the broader Drone Deal framework since July, with Ukraine hoping to sign major defense agreements with at least seven NATO countries by year's end.

Nineteen companies, nine more companies, a commissioner, and a name with the word Alliance in it, all to sit in a room in Brussels and talk about drones some more. One of the people actually in that industry already called it what it probably is, just another meeting, and he did not even need a marketing budget to say it. If the paperwork moves as fast as the wreckage in Kyiv, somebody ought to check back in a year and count how many of those firms are still standing.
