MSNBC host Lawrence O'Donnell argued that President Trump's Iran war cannot end through negotiation because Iran has no reason to believe anything Trump says. The war, launched for what the piece describes as several contradictory reasons, has reportedly cost at least 18 U.S. service members and more than 3,000 Iranian lives, with none of the administration's stated objectives achieved.

O'Donnell pointed to Trump's abandoned memorandum of understanding with Iran, made after threatening to destroy ‘a whole civilization,’ and his early vow that the war would end within weeks as evidence of a credibility problem extending beyond foreign policy. He cited Trump's handling of the Federal Reserve, including threatening to prosecute former chair Jerome Powell over interest rates, then publicly defending Powell's replacement Kevin Warsh for making the same rate decision Trump once treated as unacceptable.
