Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russian strikes on Kyiv and Boryspil airports were deliberately timed ahead of a visit by U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who were expected in Moscow on Sept. 5 and Kyiv on Sept. 6. Zelenskyy called it a message: ‘Russian-Iranian Shahed drones in response to American diplomacy.’

Ukraine had ordered its own forces to hold fire along the front from Sept. 5 through Sept. 8 as a unilateral gesture, while insisting it would not risk the diplomatic push. Russia, however, rejected Ukraine's proposed ceasefire the next morning and fighting continued, with Ukraine's General Staff saying a one-sided pause would only endanger its own troops.

The full dispatch is available from the source below.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
Somebody offers a truce, the other side answers with drones over the very airport the peace envoys are supposed to land at, and then acts surprised when nobody trusts the next offer either. That is not a negotiating tactic, that is a man shooting at the mailman right before he expects a package. The talks will happen anyway, because they always do, but nobody should mistake showing up for meaning it.
