The League of Conservation Voters, a 501(c)(4) founded in 1969, feeds its affiliated super PAC, the LCV Victory Fund, which has raised about $23.1 million this cycle and spent nearly $5 million opposing Republican candidates in Michigan, Virginia and North Carolina.

The nonprofit itself is the super PAC's largest donor, having given more than $18 million, but as a 501(c)(4) it faces no requirement to disclose where its own money comes from. Other listed donors include a designer, a film producer and a philanthropist.

A nonprofit that will not say who funds it hands $18 million to a PAC that has to say everything else. That is not a loophole, that is the whole design working exactly as built. Every outfit in this business, left or right, uses the same trick, so save your outrage for the law that allows it rather than the group smart enough to use it.
