A fire broke out at the Sasta machine-tool plant in Sasovo, Ryazan region, which houses one of Yandex's data centers, according to the independent Telegram channel Astra, which reached that conclusion by analyzing eyewitness photos and video.

Ukrainian monitoring channels Exilenova+ and Supernova+ say a Ukrainian strike caused the fire. Russia's Defense Ministry listed Ryazan among regions where air defenses downed drones that night, but local authorities have said nothing about the aftermath.

Yandex confirmed 'an incident' at the Sasovo center affecting 'part of the infrastructure,' said no one was injured, and claimed the situation is 'under control.' Several Russian sites, including a regional edition of Komsomolskaya Pravda, went dark afterward.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A company calling a fire 'an incident' is the corporate version of a man with his shoe on fire saying his foot feels warm. Nobody local wants to confirm or deny much of anything, which tells you plenty on its own. When the silence is this loud, you don't need the press release to know who's embarrassed.
