Zelenskyy says Ukraine could stop energy strikes if Russia does the same

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed an ‘energy ceasefire’ at the Yalta European Strategy forum, under which Russia would stop striking Ukraine's energy grid and Ukraine would stop retaliating in kind. He paired the offer with a warning that Ukraine can and will hit back at Russian energy infrastructure if Moscow keeps striking Ukraine's. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said two days earlier that no substantive talks on such a truce were underway.

The proposal comes as U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner shuttled between Moscow and Kyiv, and after a Trump-Putin call in which Trump pressed for the war to end quickly. Zelenskyy has also floated the UN General Assembly in New York as a venue to revive broader negotiations.
