An opinion piece by lawyer Sarah Leah Whitson argues Congress should expand scrutiny of Jared Kushner, who serves as a volunteer diplomatic negotiator while owning Affinity Partners, an investment firm financed heavily by Saudi Arabia and Gulf monarchies.
Rep. Robert Garcia opened a new Oversight Committee investigation on Oct. 6 after CNN reported Affinity Partners became the largest shareholder in an Israeli conglomerate holding stakes in military suppliers, while Kushner was helping negotiate an Israel-Hamas peace deal.
Earlier probes stretch back to 2022, including Rep. Carolyn Maloney's inquiry into Saudi Arabia's $2 billion investment in Affinity and Sen. Ron Wyden's 2024 investigation into foreign-government payments and possible disclosure loopholes.

A man negotiating peace deals for countries that also happen to be writing checks to his investment firm is not a new story, it is just one that keeps getting a new chapter. Congress has opened this file three or four times now, which tells you less about Kushner than about what happens to an investigation once the subject is family. The paperwork piles up, the money keeps moving, and nobody seems to be in a hurry to connect the two.
