A charter aircraft carrying eight people — two pilots and six passengers — crashed at Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site Airport in western Alaska, about 450 miles west of Anchorage, killing everyone aboard. The plane had departed Anchorage and is believed to have crashed on approach Thursday afternoon, according to the NTSB's Alaska region chief.

The radar site is part of a network tracking aircraft in Alaska's airspace and is managed by the Pacific Air Forces Regional Support Center. U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Robert Davis called it a devastating loss for the military family and said the priority now is supporting those affected.
