Cabinet backs new foreign volunteers bill

Ukraine's government approved a bill strengthening legal protections for foreign nationals and stateless people serving in its military, PM Sergii Koretskyi announced on Aug. 28. The bill would extend the legal temporary residency period after a military contract ends from three months to six, and count military service toward the five-year residency requirement for an immigration permit.

It would also create a travel document for foreigners who cannot obtain or renew passports from their home countries due to threats or political circumstances. The Cabinet expects parliament to take up the bill soon.
