Ukrainian drone attack sets Russian oil refinery on fire, cuts power to part of Russian city

Ukraine sent drones into Russia's Yaroslavl region overnight on September 17, according to regional Governor Mikhail Yevrayev, who said 65 of them were shot down and that the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery sustained damage now being fought by firefighters. Windows blew out in nearby apartment buildings and cars were damaged, but Yevrayev reported no injuries.

Separately, drones struck Rostov-on-Don, damaging a transformer substation and cutting power to four districts, Governor Yuri Slyusar said, also reporting no deaths or injuries. The independent Telegram channel Astra additionally reported a fire at the Rostov-on-Don Central military airfield after reviewing witness photos and video.

Russia's Defense Ministry, for its part, claimed 641 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones were intercepted and destroyed over Russian territory overnight, a number that arrives with no independent verification attached.

Two governors say nobody got hurt and a ministry says it knocked down 641 drones, and you're left doing the math on your own because nobody's showing the wreckage. A refinery on fire and a chunk of a city without power is a strange kind of nothing to report as harmless.
