UK-French sales firm Alief has acquired world sales rights to Joseph Archer's Snapshot, a supernatural thriller premiering at the Edinburgh International Film Festival on August 15 and later screening at Frightfest London.
Set in 1888 amid the Jack the Ripper murders, the film follows an inventor building an early moving-image machine to document an all-women ghost-hunting society investigating whether the killings are the work of a monster rather than a man, shot entirely in a circular 1:1 aspect ratio to mimic pinhole-camera photography.
Writer-director Archer, a former newspaper journalist, says the film draws a parallel between Victorian sensationalist journalism and modern online misinformation; producers include Silicon Gothic alongside financiers from Germany, India and Canada.
