An overnight Ukrainian drone attack forced Sochi's airport into more than 11 hours of restrictions, with about 90 flights delayed or unable to land and 27 inbound flights canceled, per calculations by a Russian Telegram channel. Two fuel depots caught fire, one just 330 feet from the airport, sending thick black smoke over the city and prompting some passengers' flights to be rebumped as far out as September 21.

Refueling was restricted to a single operator under a government notice, and the regional governor warned the fire could disrupt gas station supplies. The depots had been fitted with anti-drone netting, visible in satellite imagery from 2026, which evidently did not stop the strike.
