Karoline Leavitt announced on X that she is stepping down as White House press secretary after the birth of her second child, saying she cannot be the mother her children deserve while also holding the job. The American Thinker column argues this decision deserves praise rather than scrutiny, and pushes back on critic Amanda Marcotte's argument that conservative politics demands women perform traditional domesticity as proof of sincerity.

The columnist recounts his own family's choice for his wife to stay home with their children, framing Leavitt's decision as a private one that shouldn't be mocked, while insisting he takes no issue with women, including AOC, who choose differently.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
An op-ed defending a personal choice by relitigating someone else's opinion column is its own genre, and this one mostly succeeds at being about the columnist's marriage rather than Leavitt's resignation. Whatever one thinks of the choice itself, turning a staffing change into a proxy battle over feminism says more about the commentariat's appetite for grievance than about Leavitt.
