Democratic gubernatorial candidate David Jolly, after touring Northern Virginia's data center corridor, said a full ban on the facilities in Florida should be on the table, going beyond his earlier call for a one-year moratorium.
He described a family hit by noise pollution and turbines, and four children nearby who developed respiratory conditions requiring medical care, plus a home that sold $80,000 under list price near a data center.
Local Florida governments are already moving: Orange County advanced a temporary ban this week, three governments have permanently barred data centers, and 19 more are pausing development, even as 12 centers already operate statewide and eight more are planned.

Jolly wants zero data centers in Florida and is fine if the other 49 states take them, which is a neighborly way of saying not in my yard but sure, yours is fine. His rival Donalds thinks the fix is just building them a couple miles down the road, as if noise and turbines respect county lines. Both men are running for governor promising to manage a problem neither one has to live next to.
