Ukraine's Ground Forces have created a Drone Forces structure under Col. Andrii Ostapenko to coordinate unmanned systems, training, and recruitment within combined-arms brigades, he announced at a Kyiv press conference. Ostapenko repeatedly stressed the new unit is an internal brand rather than a separate military branch, and said it does not duplicate or compete with the existing Unmanned Systems Forces.
The announcement coincided with claims from the Unmanned Systems Forces that its units struck at least 16 targets inside Russia in September, including refineries, seaports, and radar installations, some over 1,000 kilometers from Ukraine's border. The force also reported hitting 637 Russian personnel in a single day on Oct. 4, including 301 killed, a tally it compared to the strength of a battalion.
The report notes plainly that these casualty and strike figures have not been independently verified.

Standing up a new command and insisting three separate times it isn't really a new command is the kind of sentence that answers its own question. As for the battalion's worth of casualties in a single day, that number arrived from the same office doing the hitting, with nobody outside checking the math. Militaries everywhere grade their own report cards; this one at least had the decency to admit the figures are unverified.
