Khartiia Corps commander Ihor Obolienskyi said the battlefield in his area of responsibility has moved underground, with his forces already deploying drones in subterranean combat and, in his telling, outperforming Russian troops at it. He said Russia went underground first as surface movement became too exposed to drone surveillance.
Khartiia's 23rd Assault Regiment reported liberating roughly 7.5 square kilometers near Dvorichna in Kharkiv Oblast on Aug. 25, another 2 square kilometers of forest on Aug. 30, and a further 4 square kilometers on Sept. 3, according to the corps.

A commander telling visitors his side has the edge underground is the kind of thing you'd want a second set of eyes on before repeating at the supper table. Maybe it's true, maybe it's the sort of thing you say to keep spirits up on a bad week. Either way, the only ones who really know what's under that ground aren't giving interviews.
