Leslie Jones told the “Obsessed” podcast that Donald Trump was visibly nervous hosting Saturday Night Live in 2015, clutching his scripts “like a little boy” at the table read, and that she reassured him by asking how much money he'd just made on a phone call he took mid-session. She said she saw him then as a reality-TV figure, not a political threat.

Jones compared Trump to Biff Tannen from “Back to the Future,” the film's bully-turned-casino-magnate villain, and said in hindsight “we let Biff become the president.” Former castmate Taran Killam separately recalled hearing protesters outside during that same table read, saying in 2017 that everyone protesting Trump's hosting slot “was absolutely right.”

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A comedian's memory of a nervous guy clutching cue cards is a fun bit of trivia dressed up as prophecy. Nobody in that room in 2015 was reading tea leaves correctly, they were reading a nervous celebrity trying to get through sketch rehearsal. It's easier to spot the villain once you already know how the movie ends.
