Former UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced Tuesday he will resign his House of Commons seat, ending 11 years as an MP and triggering a special election in his once-safe Holborn and St. Pancras constituency.

Starmer resigned as PM in July after sustained pressure from Labour lawmakers and poor local election results; former Manchester mayor Andy Burnham succeeded him. The announcement landed on the same day Burnham faced Parliament for the first time since taking over, making this the seventh premiership change in Britain in a decade.

Starmer says he'll now focus on international affairs — defense, security, trade, technology — while pledging full support to Burnham's government. The contest will be the first electoral test of Burnham's Labour government, in a seat where Starmer's vote share had already slipped from 53% to 49%.

The full dispatch is available from the source below.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A safe seat, a tidy exit, and a promise of full support to the man who replaced him — Starmer's send-off reads like a LinkedIn post disguised as statesmanship. Seven prime ministers in ten years is not stability, it's a revolving door with better lighting.
