At a Dearborn interfaith event billed to address rising hateful rhetoric, Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed declined to say whether he wants the endorsement of state Sen. Jeremy Moss, amid fallout over comments by El-Sayed ally Hasan Piker suggesting violence could befall pro-Israel Jews.

Moss condemned Piker's remarks on X, referencing the March 2026 attack at a West Bloomfield synagogue, while Rep. Hillary Scholten said she won't campaign with El-Sayed over his continued association with Piker. Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers has seized on the dispute, calling Piker El-Sayed's 'running mate.'

El-Sayed said he disavows violence but that 'nobody speaks for this campaign' but him, and both he and Moss said their disagreements are smaller than their shared opposition to Rogers, whom they tied to election denial and Trump.

A unity rally that spends most of its energy on who won't endorse whom is a fairly on-brand way to fight hateful rhetoric. Everyone on stage agreed the real enemy is in November, right up until the next microphone found a disagreement closer to home.
