Ukraine’s prosecutor general submits resignation after senior subordinate is accused of shielding fraudulent call centers

Ukraine's Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko announced on Telegram that he has submitted his resignation, calling it a deliberate political decision meant to keep his office from being used as a tool in political conflict.

The move follows a National Anti-Corruption Bureau search of his office last week and the detention of Serhiy Kropyva, a deputy department head accused of running a network that shielded fraudulent call centers. Kravchenko had previously insisted he felt no obligation to resign, saying that decision belonged to parliament or the president.

Kravchenko becomes the latest in a string of senior Ukrainian officials to lose their posts over corruption scandals this past year, following former presidential chief of staff Andriy Yermak, former deputy presidential office head Iryna Mudra, and former Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko.
