Justice Department indicts 10 noncitizens in quest to prove Trump claims of election fraud

A federal grand jury indicted 10 noncitizens on charges of unlawful voting and false citizenship claims in Minnesota, Attorney General Todd Blanche announced, bringing the nationwide total of such indictments to 90 since the administration took office. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin joined Blanche at the announcement, framing the case as confirmation of President Trump's long-running and unsubstantiated fraud claims.

The alleged violations span the 2022 and 2024 general elections and 2026 primaries in Minnesota. Seven alleged illegal votes in the 2024 presidential race amount to roughly .0002% of the 154 million votes cast nationally that year, a figure that made no difference to any outcome.

Seven votes out of 154 million. That's about like blaming the church roof leak on one drop of dew. Nobody sensible wants a noncitizen at the ballot box, and the courts can sort these ten out, but when a Cabinet secretary and the Attorney General both show up to a press conference to wave around a rounding error, you start to wonder whether the point was ever the votes or just the picture.
