GOP Ad Attacks Ossoff’s Vote Against Trump Tax Cuts

A Republican-aligned nonprofit called One Nation is airing an ad attacking Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff over his vote against last year's tax and spending law, claiming it amounts to a $2,100 tax increase on families.

FactCheck.org traced the $2,100 figure to a Tax Foundation report from 2024 that predates the law it's supposedly describing, and doesn't contain that number at all. A separate, more recent Tax Foundation analysis put the average individual tax change at $2,272, but that figure excludes spending cuts and varies wildly by income, with the wealthiest households seeing far larger benefits than everyone else.

One Nation, a dark-money group affiliated with a McConnell-aligned super PAC, has spent roughly $145 million this cycle and over $9 million on this ad alone. Ossoff has said his opposition centered on Medicaid and food assistance cuts, which the ad doesn't mention.

A number that shows up nowhere in its own cited source isn't a rounding error, it's a choice. Nine million dollars buys a lot of TV time, and apparently none of it went toward finding the actual figure. If your argument needs a footnote that doesn't say what you claim it says, maybe sit this one out.
