The White House press office released a lengthy defense of President Trump's removal of CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from White House grounds, arguing access is a privilege rather than a right, and citing years of what it calls false reporting.

The bulk of the release recounts alleged press restrictions under the Obama and Biden administrations, from Fox News tensions to a New York Post reporter blocked from an event, framing the current ban as consistent with past practice rather than exceptional.

The release also cites a Media Research Center finding that 92% of mainstream coverage of Trump's second term was negative, compared to nearly 60% positive coverage of Biden in the same period, offering this as evidence of bias rather than of anything else.

Any kid caught with a hand in the cookie jar will tell you the neighbor kids took cookies too. It's a fine argument for the neighbor kids being in trouble and a poor one for the hand. And when the case for fairness rests on counting up how mean everybody was, the counting is the whole show.
