The White House announced its 2026 Fall Garden Tours, open to the public Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18, showing off the South Lawn, Rose Garden, Kitchen Garden, an expanded beehive, and a new helipad. Free timed tickets go out first-come, first-served starting at 8:30 a.m. each day at the Visitor Center, one per person, including children.

A garden tour with a helipad on the itinerary tells you something about what counts as a historic backdrop these days. Free is a nice word for an event that still needs a ticket, a line, and a hotline number for weather delays. Nobody's against a nice walk through the Rose Garden, but let's not pretend handing out timed passes is the same as opening the gates.
