Hour two of a political talk radio program covered a spread of topics including public perception of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the reported release of American Robert Gilman from over four years in Russian detention (credited to the Trump administration and envoy Steve Witkoff), and 2026 midterm primaries in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and South Carolina. Discussion of South Carolina centered on Darlene Graham, sister of Sen. Lindsey Graham, who has received Trump's endorsement to succeed him, alongside a revisit of Mark Sanford's Appalachian Trail scandal.

The hosts also discussed a new report showing declining murder and violent crime rates across much of the U.S. in 2026, highlighting low homicide totals in Miami, Orlando, and Tampa contrasted with higher rates in Chicago, Denver, Las Vegas, and several other cities. They attributed improving numbers in cities like Baltimore, Memphis, and Washington, D.C. to tougher law enforcement and prosecution policies, criticizing Chicago leadership for resisting similar changes.

The segment closed on a broader cultural discussion of American regional identity and the historical origins of city and state names.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A talk-radio hour that drifts from a congresswoman's haircut to state etymology by way of crime statistics is not analysis, it's filler with opinions attached. Crediting falling murder rates entirely to policing philosophy while glossing over the dozens of other variables in play is the kind of causal leap that wouldn't survive a stats class, let alone scrutiny. But scrutiny was never really the assignment here.
