The CDC reported 4,080 measles cases nationwide as of October 8, the highest calendar-year total since 1991, with Pennsylvania alone adding 142 cases for a yearly total of 1,105 and five deaths the state attributes to the disease, though the CDC only recognizes two.
Governor Josh Shapiro has publicly disputed the federal death count, noting his state's toll alone exceeds the three deaths the CDC credits to the entire country this year. Nearly all states have reported at least one case, and all but four of this year's infections occurred in unvaccinated people.
Even as Pennsylvania reports a surge in vaccination interest, with more than 56,000 doses given in September, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy used the week to announce a new clinic and database focused on vaccine injury, saying officials must 'listen to patients and families who report vaccine injuries.'

When the house is on fire, most people go looking for a hose, not a suggestion box for complaints about the hose. Pennsylvania lined up 56,000 times in September to get the shot, and the man in charge of the nation's health spent the week building a clinic for the other side of the argument. You'd also think Washington could at least count the dead as well as Harrisburg does.
