The deaths of actors Chadwick Boseman and James Van Der Beek, both diagnosed with colorectal cancer in their 40s, have drawn more public attention to the disease.

Doctors interviewed point to rectal bleeding, abdominal pain, changes in bowel habits, thinner stools, fatigue and anemia as the most common warning signs, noting that bleeding is often mistaken for hemorrhoids.
