Flash floods triggered by a glacier collapse have killed more than 160 people across Nepal and Tibet, with nearly 1,000 people, mostly foreign tourists, still missing, Reuters reported. Nepali officials said 579 foreigners were reported missing, including more than 400 Indian pilgrims traveling to Mount Kailash, along with citizens of Ukraine, the United States, Australia, Britain and Canada.

The U.S. Geological Survey attributed the flooding to a 5.2-magnitude glacier collapse that sent mud and debris downstream, with water levels on the Trishuli river rising as much as 9 meters in half an hour. In Tibet's Gyirong County, Chinese state media reported 558 people missing and three confirmed deaths. Ukraine's foreign ministry said it lost contact with 46 citizens, a number local police later revised to 53 missing.
