Trump was secretly moved from the aircraft believed to be Air Force One to a smaller Air Force C-32A via a catering truck in Turkey on July 8, after officials received intelligence about a potential Iranian assassination threat, according to a Washington Post report. Accompanying him were longtime loyalists Dan Scavino, Natalie Harp and Walt Nauta, but no cabinet-level officials; Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also boarded the smaller jet separately, appearing to journalists as the senior official present.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and other senior staff including Stephen Miller and Steven Cheung remained on the original jumbo jet, which the White House had deemed too risky for the president yet let the press corps and other officials fly regardless. The White House did not disclose the operation to traveling journalists that day or for more than a month afterward, and has declined to say who else was on the

decoy plane.

Telling the press their plane was too dangerous for the president but not too dangerous for them, then hiding that fact for a month, is the kind of asymmetry that doesn't require much interpretation. If the threat was real, the people denied a warning deserved one; if it wasn't, someone owes an explanation for the catering truck.
