U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright told CBS News that Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian refineries are driving record U.S. diesel prices, now at $5.85 a gallon, since Russia has gone from diesel exporter to gasoline importer.

Asked about a possible export ban, Wright said the administration is 'leaning in on maximum production' rather than restricting exports, and pinned 17 years of high energy costs on unspecified 'Democrat policies' against hydrocarbons.

The Financial Times has reported that Ukrainian long-range strikes have disabled nearly half of Russia's refining capacity, strikes that followed Russia's own invasion of Ukraine and continued war rather than preceding it.

So the drones came first and the invasion happened later. That's a mighty tidy way to read a calendar, and it lets a man skip past the part where somebody rolled tanks across a border. Seventeen years of blame is a long rope to throw at the price on the pump sign, especially from an office that says its only plan is to pump more.
