Lil Durk's former personal assistant, Kavon Grant, testified that the rapper reacted to news of a fatal 2022 shooting with the words 'Finally, we got somebody.' Prosecutors allege the shooting, which killed 24-year-old Saviay'a Robinson instead of intended target Quando Rondo, was retaliation tied to the 2020 murder of Durk's friend King Von.
Grant testified he spoke to Durk by phone repeatedly during the two days shooters tracked Rondo in LA, and later briefed him in person after the shooting. Durk has denied involvement and pointed to Grant as responsible.
On cross-examination, defense attorney Drew Findling played jailhouse call recordings in which Grant referred to his testimony as his 'time to perform,' seeking to portray him as unreliable and fame-seeking. Grant, currently in federal custody awaiting sentencing, maintained he had been truthful throughout.
