Fire breaks out at major Russian oil refinery in Bashkortostan amid drone attack

Explosions and a fire were reported at the Ufimsky Oil Refinery in Russia's Bashkortostan region on Sept. 23, following what independent monitoring channels described as a drone attack on the city of Ufa. Russia's aviation agency suspended flights at Ufa Airport as a precaution.

Analysts noted the smoke could also be coming from a nearby thermal power plant, and that additional air defenses have been moved into the area, which houses three separate refineries. The Bashneft-Novoil, Bashneft-UNPZ, and Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim plants were also hit in August, and this marks the second reported strike on the area in three days.

Three refineries in one industrial zone and a habit of catching fire every other day suggests somebody in Ufa should invest in a better fire department, or a better air defense budget, whichever comes first. It's hard to keep suspending flights and calling it routine without admitting the routine part is the problem.
