Russian attack on Kyiv damages 19th-century Exaltation of the Cross Church in Podil

A Russian attack on Kyiv late on Sept. 27 damaged the Exaltation of the Cross Church in the city's Podil district, shattering windows and icons and damaging early 20th-century wall frescoes by Ukrainian artist Hryhorii Svitlytskyi, according to the church's rector, Archpriest Valeriy Kravets. The church, built between 1811 and 1841, belongs to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate.

The strike follows damage to another Moscow Patriarchate church, the Church of the Intercession in Priorka, during a Russian ballistic missile attack on Kyiv on Sept. 24, and a separate drone strike that damaged the Shevchenko Museum at the National Academy of Sciences.
