Four Italian troops wounded during NATO live-fire exercise

Four Italian soldiers from the 11th Bersaglieri Regiment were wounded when a machine-gun burst was accidentally fired from one Dardo infantry vehicle into another during a NATO live-fire exercise at Latvia's Ādaži training area. The rear hatch of the second vehicle was reportedly open as soldiers were dismounting.

All four were hospitalized in Riga; three were reported in good condition and had already contacted family, while a fourth suffered more serious but stable, non-life-threatening injuries. Italy's Defense Ministry said an investigation is underway, with the defense minister receiving updates from senior military commanders.

Italy maintains roughly 300 troops in Latvia as part of NATO's Forward Land Forces mission, one of several allied contingents backing the alliance's eastern flank.
