A HuffPost shopping piece cites a Montefiore Einstein dermatologist explaining that body odor comes from bacteria breaking down sweat and skin oils, not sweat itself, and that regular soap only temporarily disrupts the skin's microbiome. It also revisits ‘nonenal’, a compound tied to so-called ‘old person smell’ that the piece says can begin developing around age 40.

The article recommends ten soaps, leading with a persimmon-extract bar endorsed by a different dermatologist, who says persimmon ‘neutralizes nonenal at the source’. HuffPost discloses it earns compensation from retailer links throughout.

The full dispatch is available from the source below.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
Calling a smell 'old person smell' and then selling a bar of soap to fix it is a tidy little two-step: invent the shame, sell the cure. The dermatologists quoted are real enough, but notice how the actual product recommendation lands exactly where the affiliate link does. A soap that claims to neutralize aging itself ought to come with a bigger asterisk than font size allows.
