A split 10th Circuit panel reinstated the NCAA's five-year eligibility rule Friday, undoing a lower court's injunction that had let athletes like Northern Colorado's Brock Wisne compete for a fifth season.

The rule caps eligibility at five seasons within five years starting the first semester after a player turns 19, effectively ending careers at 24 regardless of how many seasons a student actually played. Judges appointed by both Bush presidents formed the majority; the Biden appointee dissented.

The NCAA wasted no time declaring victory on social media, announcing athletes who competed under the now-vacated injunction are 'no longer eligible.' Half a dozen similar suits remain pending in Colorado alone, with state court injunctions elsewhere untouched by Friday's ruling.
