Banks block bail payments for Stolar and Mudra in high-profile corruption probe

Lawmaker Vadym Stolar and former Deputy Chief of Staff Iryna Mudra, key suspects in the Forrest Gump corruption investigation, cannot post their court-ordered bail because banks are refusing to process the payments, ZN.UA reported, citing sources. Stolar's bail is set at 300 million hryvnias, and he has offered to let the state simply seize that amount in private assets instead; Mudra has managed to pay 5 million of her 20 million hryvnia bail, with the rest blocked when her husband tried to transfer it.

Banking officials told the outlet the National Bank of Ukraine explicitly advised against processing these specific bail payments, and compliance departments have flagged the transactions as high-risk. Because of the standoff, prosecutors have not yet asked the court to order Stolar detained, and a source suggested the paper trail of blocked payments would actually work in his favor if the matter reaches a judge.
