Ukraine's presidential chief of staff Kyrylo Budanov said Ukraine proposed an air and ground ceasefire to Russia during a U.S. delegation visit, delivered personally to Vladimir Putin, and received no response. Fighting continued regardless, with five people confirmed dead in Kamianske and two injured in a shopping center strike in Mykolaiv.

The proposal came alongside a Ukrainian-initiated pause in its own long-range strikes from Sept. 5 through Sept. 8, meant to keep Russian airspace clear ahead of envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner's visits to Moscow and Kyiv. Russia's General Staff was reported to have rejected the ceasefire idea outright, and drone strikes continued overnight across Kyiv, Poltava and Odesa oblasts.
