A large drone barrage hit Rostov-on-Don overnight on September 17, sparking a fire at the Rostov-on-Don Tsentralny military airfield, according to independent monitoring channels and OSINT geolocation. Footage showed secondary explosions at the section of the base used to park military aircraft.

Regional governor Yury Slyusar confirmed a fire broke out but did not mention the airfield, instead attributing power outages across four districts to falling drone debris damaging a substation. The strike follows a similar attack on the nearby Taganrog-Central airfield days earlier.
