Ukraine's anti-corruption bureau NABU and its prosecutorial partner SAPO launched what they called a special operation to expose a criminal organization, raiding the homes of sitting and former lawmakers and officials on August 19th.

Among those searched, according to lawmaker Oleksiy Honcharenko, was Iryna Mudra, deputy head of the President's Office, appointed by Zelensky in 2024. Reporting from Zerkalo Nedeli adds a former MP, a sitting lawmaker, Justice Ministry officials, and Sense Bank representatives to the case, though NABU itself has not confirmed names.

NABU released an audio fragment referencing 'four sacks' and the President's Office, plus a line about the folly of registering stolen money in one's children's names — the kind of detail investigators leak when they want it to be memorable rather than merely accurate.

There is something almost touching about an anti-corruption bureau that leaks the memorable line first and the confirmed names later, as if the case were being tested on an audience before it opens. A criminal organization is an easy thing to announce and a hard thing to prove, and the distance between those two chores is where most such operations quietly go to live. Everyone involved insists the process is above politics, which is exactly what you would say either way.
