Democrat Amish Shah and Republican Jay Feely debated Wednesday for Arizona's Congressional District 1, a competitive Scottsdale-area seat, each accusing the other of being a rubber stamp for their party rather than an independent voice.
Shah hit Feely over his closeness to Trump, who endorsed him and encouraged his move into the district; Feely countered by linking Shah to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Gavin Newsom and Chuck Schumer, warning of 'big government socialism.'
Feely claimed roughly a trillion dollars in government fraud needs rooting out but couldn't name a specific source when pressed, and his fallback explanation — that DOGE was blocked by lawsuits from finding it — sidesteps that DOGE itself turned up no such widespread fraud.
Feely also cited Vance's September claim that 750,000 'phantom people' would be purged from ACA coverage as proof of healthcare fraud, though the investigation into whether those people even exist is still ongoing.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A man stands on a debate stage, says there's a trillion dollars sitting around in government waste, and when somebody asks where exactly, he points at a lawsuit instead of a ledger. That's not an answer, that's a shrug with a dollar sign on it. If the fraud were really a trillion dollars deep, somebody would have tripped over it by now instead of just mentioning it at rallies.
