Wine production in occupied Crimea fell by a quarter due to logistics and fuel problems

Wine production in occupied Crimea fell 24.7% year-on-year from January through August 2026, with sparkling wine output down 38%, according to Russian regulator data reported by Kommersant. Crimea normally supplies about a fifth of Russia's wine and a tenth of its sparkling wine.

The decline outpaces the national drop of roughly 15%, driven by logistics failures on the R-280 highway, the peninsula's main overland supply route since the 2022 Crimean Bridge explosion. Ukrainian military strikes on the highway since late May have pushed carriers to refuse trips, while power outages, fuel shortages, a weak grape harvest, and a halving of tourist bookings have compounded the losses.
