The Trump administration has excluded the United Kingdom, France, and the Baltic states from an upcoming NATO future-planning meeting in Poland organized by Pentagon policy chief Elbridge Colby, Politico reported, citing six diplomats familiar with the planning.
The excluded countries are among the alliance's largest defense spenders, and their diplomats say they have not been told why they were left out or what criteria determined the guest list.
This follows earlier reporting that the administration had compiled a ranking of NATO members based on loyalty to Washington's policy positions, and had circulated questionnaires gauging allies' alignment with the president's agenda.
Neither the White House nor the Pentagon responded to requests for comment.

Allies get graded now like kids turning in homework, except nobody will say what the rubric is or who's holding the red pen. You can run a classroom that way for a while, but eventually the good students stop showing up to be told they're not good enough. An alliance held together by a loyalty questionnaire is not an alliance, it is a popularity contest with nuclear weapons attached.
