Russian forces struck a Kyiv-Sumy passenger train twice with drones on Sept. 8 after Ukrzaliznytsia's monitoring team had already stopped the train and evacuated passengers and crew, according to the railway's CEO. Buses were arranged to carry passengers onward, and no one was hurt.

The strike came amid a larger overnight assault involving dozens of missiles and 166 drones, with Ukraine's Air Force saying Odesa and Kyiv oblasts were the main targets. Air defenses reportedly intercepted two ballistic missiles, 31 cruise missiles, and 142 drones.

Ballistic missiles also hit Kyiv directly, damaging buildings in five districts and killing at least two people and injuring ten others, according to preliminary reports.
