Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov called a US-brokered energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine ‘a very good idea’ while insisting it ‘won't solve the world's problems,’ which he said really require Ukraine to stop hitting oil tankers and Western sanctions to be lifted. Trump announced the agreement on September 14; within a day, Ukrainian drones hit a Russian refinery and Russian forces struck Kyiv gas stations.

Peskov added that the truce would mainly help saturate Russia's domestic fuel market, a market he described as already nearly full.

Calling something a very good idea while it's already falling apart overnight is a neat trick, and the Kremlin's spokesman does it without blinking. It's the diplomatic version of praising the fence you just watched your neighbor's cow walk through. Nobody's actually stopped shooting, but everybody's very pleased with the paperwork.
