Trump's Republican convention in Dallas featured a video, previously used in 2024, recasting Paul Harvey's ‘So God Made a Farmer’ speech so that God specifically fashions Trump as caretaker of the country. The same event featured speakers, including Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Pastor Robert Jeffress, attacking Democrats and a Democratic Senate candidate's Christian faith as insufficiently devout.

Trump himself later asked the crowd to raise their right hands and pledge loyalty not to God but to him, warning that those who didn't vote would go to hell. Critics online called the juxtaposition blatant idolatry, with several invoking cult comparisons given the contrast between the video's messaging and the convention's attacks on other candidates' religious sincerity.
