Ukraine's Ministry for Restoration confirmed that investigators searched its offices on Sept. 23 as part of a probe into alleged sanctions-relief bribery involving the director of its recovery policy department, appointed in April 2026.
The ministry was careful to note the searches concern the official's previous job, not his current duties, and announced he would be suspended immediately while the criminal inquiry proceeds. It also announced a broader internal audit into practices predating the current leadership team.
The case centers on suspected payments made in exchange for lifting sanctions on business entities, according to the ministry's own account of what investigators are looking into.

A ministry vetting a man for a sensitive recovery post and somehow missing a live sanctions-bribery cloud over his old job is the kind of oversight that makes you wonder who's reading the resumes. Calling it unrelated to his current duties is technically true and also beside the point, since the point is who let him in the door. An audit launched right after the cameras show up isn't reform, it's just good timing.
