Luke Littler, the back-to-back darts world champion, has threatened to boycott tournaments held in the Netherlands after being booed and whistled by fans during the World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam.

The hostility began during his win over home favourite Danny Noppert on Friday and escalated further in a subsequent match against Nathan Aspinall. Littler has framed continued jeering as grounds for avoiding future events in the country.

A young man who makes his living throwing darts in front of thousands of strangers is discovering that strangers sometimes yell things. That is not a scandal, it is the whole arrangement he signed up for the day the crowds got big enough to matter. Threatening to skip a country over some whistling is the sporting equivalent of quitting the church picnic because somebody heckled your horseshoe toss.
