Waltz won't give Iran war end date as new poll shows voter skepticism

Ambassador Mike Waltz declined on CNN to give any timeline for ending the Iran war, now in its seventh month despite Trump's original prediction it would be over in four or five weeks. A new NBC News poll found 62% of voters say the war has not been worth it, and 57% say they would be less likely to back a candidate who supports it.

Waltz pointed to economic pressure and a naval blockade as signs time favors the administration, even as Iran threatened retaliation and Houthi forces escalated attacks near the Bab al-Mandab corridor. Trump, meanwhile, told a North Carolina crowd the war would end 'very soon.'

Seven House Republicans, including two from competitive Iowa districts, broke ranks this week to back a resolution restricting further military action without congressional authorization. The poll also put Trump's approval at 41%, with 55% saying his policies have hurt the economy.

When the ambassador won't give a date and the president gives a different one every week, that is not strategy, that is just two people hoping nobody compares notes. A war that was supposed to be over by now dragging into month seven while gas and diesel keep climbing is the kind of thing voters remember longer than any speech. The Republicans peeling off in swing districts aren't doing it out of principle discovered last Tuesday, they're doing arithmetic on a calendar that says November.
